Description
The American bison is a large even-toed ungulate reaching weights up to 1500 kg and lengths up to 3.8 meters. When running, the bison can reach speeds of up to 50 km/h.
Appearance
The American bison has a massive body structure, which gives it a majestic appearance. The fur is brown, dense, and longer on the head and chest, making these parts of the body appear more robust.
Habitat
American bison gather in large herds numbering up to tens of thousands of individuals, but in winter they separate into smaller groups in an effort to find food more easily.
Reproduction
Female bison give birth to one calf after a gestation period of 10 months, which is then nursed for approximately one year.
